So here it is for all the positive thinkers, something for you to remember this holiday season….
1. FIGHT THE BRAIN DRAIN
Don’t be a mental couch potato. Read a book, be inspired, reflect on your 2016 and write those wishes for next year! Learning to speak a new language, start a new dance lesson, learn how to paint or play a musical instrument are ideal mental exercise too.
2.YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT
I know…we can’t resist this time of the year with so much food on the table wherever we go! Let’s not forget chocolates are most popular Christmas present and we stock them at home (not that we intend to) thanks to lovely and caring friends and family! However, try to nourish your brain with healthy diet, eat varied meal and cover all the food groups. Most importantly, DRINK MODERATELY.
3. GET PHYSICAL
Put that music on by Olivia Newton John and ‘Let’s get physical…physical! I wanna get physical’ mode! As little as 20 minutes exercise a day will improve your memory and your mood.
4. SAFETY FIRST
Wear a helmet when cycling, DRIVE SAFELY, take any head injury seriously.
5. STUB IT OUT
Yes stub it out! STOP SMOKING! Everyone’s most popular New Year’s resolution that is very hard to achieve. Smoking impairs the amount of oxygen reaching the brain, perhaps go back to No.2 of this list and try to DRINK a little MORE than MODERATE instead.
6. SLEEP LIKE A BABY
Yes, after all that partying sleep like a baby….enjoy this break with lots of sleep, relaxation, exercise and perhaps participate in yoga classes or meditation. Having a walk at the beach is also a beautiful thing to do.
7. CHILL OUT! LEARN TO MANAGE STRESS AND DEPRESSION
Chill out! You heard it right! You can go without partying and just chill out with your family or friends. Forget all the dramas! Life is too short to be depressed. You don’t have to settle for less…EVER…in love or in life. Maintaining a social network is also important to help prevent depression and anxiety. So it’s okay to share your enjoyable moments on FB, Twitter and Instagram while you chill out.
So let me hear it from the positive thinkers….which one are you likely to do this holiday season?
This ‘brain sense’ doesn’t have to be done only this time of the year but these are things that we need to consider to live a long healthy life. Just food for thought!
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAVE A FABULOUS 2017!
